ANIMALS & INSECTS- not cats or dogs

This page does not include birds, cats, or dogs.  They have their own pages

Click on an image to open the corresponding blog.  The blog will have a free pattern (if available), video tutorial link (if available), and the written tutorial.

This tutorial explains how to create short fur texture using the zigzag burn stroke.  Even though I used cat faces for the demo, the information can be used on any animal with short fur.  Zigzag Cat Tutorial

This video goes into great detail on the zigzag burn stroke that I use to create short fur texture.   You might find the information it contains helpful.

This was created a few years later than the previous tutorial, so there might be things I’ve learned since the previous tutorial was created.

Anaconda pattern

The anaconda was something I tried that didn’t turn out well.    Regardless, if you like snakes, you will probably enjoy creating the artwork.

Pattern for the Bighorn Sheep is for sale on my Etsy page.   https://www.etsy.com/listing/696981937/bighorn-sheep-pyrography-pattern-wood

I do have a video tutorial that explains how to create the background:  https://youtu.be/J4cb-V43rao

Butterfly book is a beginner friendly project.  There is minimal wood burning, but lots of colored pencil work.  The artwork was burned onto a wood box shaped like a book.  There is a front and back side to the book.  Butterfly book tutorial

The chipmunk pattern is available on my Etsy page.  https://www.etsy.com/listing/749249415/chipmunk-pyrography-pattern-wood-burning

I do not have a tutorial or blog for this one.

I do not have a corresponding blog or video tutorial for the Dragonfly artwork.  The dragonfly pattern is available on my Etsy page:  https://www.etsy.com/listing/937123267/dragonfly-pyrography-pattern-wood

The Easter chick tutorial will show you how to create the artwork using just a writer nib.  Easter Chick Tutorial

Ear – this video shows how to create the wispy ear.  There is not a corresponding blog.

Goldfish pattern    I do have a youtube video tutorial for this one.  Here’s the link:   https://youtu.be/6yXfeuf_luw

The horse tutorial explains how to burn the different parts of the horse.  Plus it covers the grass and simple background.

I should mention that the techniques work for any color of horse.  If the horse is really dark, then burn the horse to a darker color than I did.   The opposite is also true.

Horse Tutorial

There isn’t a blog or a video tutorial for the Koala artwork.  The best I have at this point is a tutorial explaining how to create the fur on found on the Koala’s arm.  The video link is below.    Koala pattern

Click on the video thumbnail to watch a tutorial explaining how to create the dense fur on a Koala’s arm.  Or you can click on this link:  https://youtu.be/Bi_sC63R-gY

The leaping trout artwork might seem a little complex at first glance.  It is actually much easier to do than it appears.  Leaping Trout

Lizard’s face tutorial explains how to create the scales and eye found on the face.  The information about the scale can be used with any reptile that has scales.   Lizard Face

The mandala dragonfly is a fun project that combines pyrography and colored pencil for a rather eye catching piece of art.

I know that at first glance this artwork might seem a bit intimidating, but the design repeats itself

Mandala Dragonfly tutorial

Rabbit with black fur tutorial  explains how to create both short fur and semi-long fur that curves and bends.

I do think that the rabbit with white fur is easier to do because the fur isn’t as complex.

Black Rabbit tutorial

Rabbit with white fur explains how to handle long white fur on this rabbit.   My only regret with this artwork is that I didn’t burn the fur a couple shades darker.  I  would highly recommend burning the rabbit darker than I did.

White Rabbit

This tutorial explains how to create a simple sea turtle.

This tutorial explains five different ways of creating whiskers.  Whiskers

This tutorial explains how to create wispy hairs that stick out against a dark background.   There is not a corresponding blog.  The information presented in this video can be used for any animal (people included).

BELOW ARE IMAGES AND THEIR ASSOCIATED PATTERN.  I do not have blog or videos for them at this time.

Abstract Dragonfly pattern

Abstract dragonfly features a small dragonfly in each corner.  This is part mandala and part whimsy.  It’s a fun design to play around with, and would probably look great with some added color.
