Website Problems update – June 2025

June 2025

Greetings my fellow pyro!  I just wanted to take a few minutes to update you on my efforts to fix the problem of images not showing on my website.

I’ve run into complications.  My host has moved my website to a slow server.  If I try to upload more than 2 photos, it times out.

I’ve been wanting to change host providers for some time now for a number of reason, but haven’t done so I didn’t want to hassle with it.  Now I have to because my current host is making things difficult.

Before I can move to another host, I have to reduce the size of my website.  My current host has unlimited storage size.  This means I can have as many pictures as I want in my blogs.   On average each blog has between 100-200 images.  I have written a lot of blogs, so my website has over 19,000 images.  The website is huge.

All of the other hosting companies charge a monthly fee based on the size of the website.  To migrate to another host would cost a lot more money than I want to spend; especially since my website doesn’t generate money.

What I’m currently doing is reducing the size of my website.   Once it is small enough, then I can migrate.   How long will this take?  I’m not sure.  I try to work on my website every day, but I have some commissions to do.  The commissions have priority over the website.

Plus, I’ve ran into some strange problems that I don’t know how to fix.  For example, the missing images are technically there, but for some reason they don’t show.  When I look at my media file, I can see the technical information for each image (name, image type, size, etc.), but the actual picture doesn’t appear unless the image is really small (below 1k small).  Most of my images are between 1-5 M.

Since I need to reduce the size of my website, I’ve been deleting all of large images that don’t show.   I haven’t bothered to ask my host for help since I’m on their naughty list.

After I’ve migrated the website to a new host, then I will start adding images back in.   That will be much faster than what I can currently do.

The pattern page is my most frequented page.  I’ve been adding links the the pdf’s and the corresponding YouTube tutorial video.  The pdf’s are listed in alphabetical order.  I know this isn’t an ideal solution, but the best that I can think of for the time being.

That’s it for this blog.  I just wanted to let you know that I am working on fixing things as time allows.  It’s just going to take a lot longer than I was initially expecting.

  1. Hi Brenda, I hope you get things worked out with the least amount of hassle. I’ve sent you an email (two actually – one to your competition address and another to a second email address that I’d previously used) it was only after I sent them that I realised that you might be having problems with your emails too, especially if they’re tied to your old website provider.
Let me know if mail has to be sent to a different email address or, if you’re able to read the email that I sent, let me know if the idea might be helpful.

    1. Hi Bill,
Thanks for the comment. It is frustrating. Especially when you see the ads that say how easy it is to start a website. Granted, that is true. It’s maintaining the site that becomes a pain.
Thanks again for the comment. Hope your site will become less problematic.

  3. What a headache for you! Sorry you are going through all this. If I had an ounce of website knowledge, I’d offer to lend you a hand, but I am clueless.

  4. Best of luck to you in solving this server problem. I’m grateful for your generosity of spirit in sharing your many tips and hard-won knowledge and I appreciate your integrity as well.

  5. Dear Brenda, you really are have a time of it. I’m so sorry, after no many years your current website company are not being a good partner to you.
Here is wishing you much strength and energy to migrate to a new company without too much “pain and suffering”.
Thank you for all you do, show, teach. Without you and your Blogs I’d be lost!!

    1. Hi Margaret,
Thank you for the kind comment. Yes, this is a pain. The biggest problem, I think, is that I have put off moving to a new host for way too long. I’ve been having problems with my current host, but was willing to ignore it because I didn’t want to hassle with moving. They say procrastination doesn’t pay…I’d agree with that. 🙂

  6. You are appreciated more than you know. You are so unselfish and generous with your time and talent. Thank you for all that you do. You are the reason I began pyrography.

  7. I appreciate everything you do for us learning pyrography. Your website is the best I have ever come across . I love your videos along with the text and images. Sometimes I watch the videos and have to back to look at the photos and text . Having both is so helpful ..

    1. Hi Jean,
Thank you for the comment and input on how you use the website. I personally find that reading information often helps me remember it better. Writing the blogs helps me organize my thoughts so that I can create better video content. Eventually this will get fixed back up.

  8. Hello Brenda,
Sorry to hear this. I hadn’t realized the problem was so serious.
Please do not delete any images from the server at this time. I hope you have a backup of these files. It’s probably the links that are broken. It’s annoying, but not serious.
Please contact me directly; I believe you have access to my email address. I may be able to help.
I’ve been a fan of your work for a long time, and I would be honored to be of assistance.
    Take care,
    See you soon.
    Ash

    1. Hi Ask,
I have back up’s, but unfortunately, they don’t go back far enough. I had thought that the links might be broken, but wasn’t sure what to do about it.
Regardless, I need to get the website down to a much smaller size.
Thank you very much for the kind offer of help.

      1. Dear Brenda,
Your website, your artwork, your passion are truly important to all of us.
You’ve given me a lot with your tutorials, truly. If I can thank you by sharing my knowledge, I’m happy to do so.

Maybe not, I can offer you solutions. Please contact me by email.

  9. Brenda, you have built an incredible pyrography web site. It is very unfortunate that it has come into these problems. Makes me wonder if your web site host realizes how much value your work has brought to their forum. Sadly I don’t have the technology knowledge to solve these issues for you – I wish I could though.
On one plus side I have looked to your you tube videos more often now and they are great. Given a choice I would read over watching a video but I have learned that watching your technique in action has been helpful to me.

I love hearing from you, so leave a comment.
